Aviation COâ‚‚ emissions in the EU 1990-2023, by type
European Union carbon dioxide (COâ‚‚) emissions from aviation were roughly 135 million metric tons (MtCOâ‚‚) in 2023, 90 percent of which were from international aviation. EU aviation COâ‚‚ emissions more than doubled between 1990 and 2019, before plummeting more than 50 percent in 2020 due to the outbreak of COVID-19. Although emissions have rebounded since then, they have remained below pre-pandemic levels.
