In a survey conducted across India in April and May 2020, approximately ** percent of urban households were unable to pay the next month's rent due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The inability to pay the following month's rent also affected rural households of the country the most, with approximately ** percent of the households affected. In general, the economic impact on the livelihoods among urban households was higher than that on rural households during the survey period.
