Total employment in Libya 2010-2019, by area of residence
The majority of the people employed in Libya are from urban areas. In 2019, the urban population in employment amounted to around 1.27 million, against 705 thousand living in rural areas. This meant that for every 100 working people among the urban population there were around 55 individuals in employment from rural regions. Compared to the previous years, the employment gap between areas of residence did not change significantly. A total of over 1.9 million people were employed in Libya in 2020.
