Hari Raya Aidilfitri is the holiday to mark the completion of Ramadan. Malaysians typically celebrate it by visiting family, while donning traditional outfits called baju kurung. Guests are treated to a wide variety of traditional food, cookies, cakes and sweet treats, as well as sweet beverages such as fruit cordial or soft drinks. The festivities can last up to a month, with the first half part the month usually reserved for family gatherings, and the latter half for friends and acquaintances.

The period of Ramadan-Hari Raya is therefore an important one for retail in Malaysia, with significant promotional and sales activity each year. Food product retail saw increases in growth across various categories. Butter and sweet beverages especially benefit from retail promotions during this time. The festive season is also generally a flourishing time for e-commerce – Hari Raya is already one of the most anticipated online sales periods in Malaysia, with more than half of Malaysians spending up to RM *** on online purchases during this time.
