Note: Government of India has divided the cities across the country according to their development, population and infrastructure.
Tier 1 cities are metropolitan cities which are developed and cost of living is comparatively high.
Tier 2 cities are more developed than tier 3 cities, well connected with luxury amenities and big shopping complexes and facilities are available.
Tier 3 cities are semi urban and lacking good facilities but cost of living is cheap.

Expected time to shift to a non-metro from a metro city India 2019
According to the Economic Times survey conducted across Indian metro cities in 2019, about 30 percent of respondents wanted to move out to a non-metro city within the next five years. Whereas, six percent of the respondents were already in the process of moving out of the metro city in India. The rise in the level of pollution in the metro cities was the leading reason for more than half of the respondents not wanting to stay in the metro cities across the country.
Since 2014, there are eight metros in India - Chennai, Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad and Pune.
