November 2023
Luxembourg
2000 to 2022
The change in 2022 may stem from a change in methodology, specifically for Luxembourg. See the "Details" tab for more information.
The numbers shown are estimates based on the following indicators:
1. Credit cards
- Number of cards with a delayed debit function;
- Number of cards with a credit / delayed debit function;
- Number of cards with a credit function.
2. Debit cards
- Number of cards with a debit function;
- Number of cards with a debit / delayed debit function.
All figures provided concern cards issued by resident PSPs. Numbers originally, up until 2021, exclude cards with an e-money function.
The source, however, considers Luxembourg a special case. Unlike other countries in Europe, it has many e-money payments as most transactions in the country come from foreign workers. It seems the numbers for 2022 include this e-money aspect within the number of cards, although the source does not clarify this.
