According to a survey on substance use in India between December 2017 and October 2018, the state of Uttar Pradesh had around *** thousand respondents who needed help for sedative-related problems. Maharashtra and Punjab followed Uttar Pradesh with an average of about *** million people who had a sedative addiction. Overall it was seen that Uttar Pradesh had the highest proportion of problem users of various substances including alcohol, cannabis and other drugs.
