According to a survey on substance use in India between December 2017 and October 2018, the states with highest prevalence of cannabis use were Sikkim at *** percent, followed by Nagaland at *** percent and Odisha with *** percent of users. Overall, only *** percent of the population in the country was seen to be users of the drug and there is a higher prevalence of the use of bhang- a product made out of cannabis oil- compared to cannabis. Bhang can be legally bought from government operated shops in the country which might be one of the reasons for its higher use than pure cannabis.
