In a 2019 survey, 22 percent of adults in the U.S. strongly supported the idea of paying financial reparations to U.S. citizens descended from slaves, while 33 percent strongly opposed the idea. Overall, 39 percent supported the idea, while 45 percent opposed, and 16 percent did not know.
