Media usage among teenagers in Germany - statistics & facts
Teenagers today grew up surrounded by electronic media and witnessed its rapid development. They are digital natives. For many, life without a smartphone is unthinkable, with this being the leading electronic device owned among both boys and girls in Germany as of 2024. Other popular devices included tablets and laptops or computers. Media usage also includes gaming consoles and wearables. According to a survey, adolescents spent an average of 201 minutes (just under three and a half hours) on the internet every day. Internet usage, perhaps unsurprisingly, peaked during the height of the pandemic in 2020. Considering the smartphone ownership figures mentioned, teenagers will also continue contributing to the rising share of mobile internet users in Germany. One of the most common sights of the twenty first century is seeing a young person glued to their phone wherever they may be. Are they reading? Are they texting? Are they checking the news? Are they scrolling through TikTok? The possibilities are numerous.
