The Corruption Perceptions Index is based on a scale from zero to 100, where zero equals the highest level of perceived corruption, and 100 the lowest level of perceived corruption. In Italy, figures have regularly augmented from 2012 to 2023, before slightly decreasing to 53 points in 2025. In fact, two-thirds of Italians believe that bribery has increased in the country over the last three decades. Moreover, around 60 percent of the citizens stated that their compatriots would be likely to take a bribe or to corrupt someone else if they had the chance to get rich. These results indicate that corruption represents a serious concern widespread in Italian society.
