In 2023, 101 mafia-type organizations were officially reported in Italy. Between 2004 and 2023, the highest number of mafia-type associations was recorded in 2005, with 153, and in 2019, with 160. The highest concentration of organized crime was in the regions of Campania, Calabria, Sicily, and Apulia, in the southern part of the peninsula.
