In 2025, most countries in Latin America and the Caribbean recorded a majority of their web traffic originating from mobile devices. Haiti ranked first in terms of mobile traffic share, at percent, followed by Venezuela and Nicaragua. At the other end of the spectrum was Uruguay, where more than ** percent of web traffic came from desktop computers.

Unequal access to the internet...

Unfortunately, these developments usually do not come equally to all Latin American countries: according to 2024 estimates, around * Ecuadorians had no access to mobile internet that year. The country's penetration rate might reach just over ** percent by 2028, whereas there were approximately ** million mobile internet users in 2022. Meanwhile, the Dominican Republic had the highest share of web traffic coming from desktop devices but also one of the lowest from mobile devices, showing little development in its access to mobile opportunities.

...but a steady growth and boost to related sectors

Despite its inequality, the increasing mobile connectivity in Latin America keeps transforming the region’s digital landscape. Growing connectivity has improved access to social networks, and consequently gathered more investment in social media advertising. Additionally, the number of online shopping customers increased throughout the region. Countries like Colombia and Per particularly observed improvements in their e-commerce economies, which are even more significant when comparing them to these markets’ still comparatively low online reach.
