Electricity was used as heating fuel by ** percent of all new housing units completed in the United States in 2023, being the first year that surpassed gas as the most common heating. Gas is the *** most common heating type built in new houses, while oil is no longer introduced as an option. Electricity as a heating fuel has slowly grown in popularity over the last few years, with a notable increase since 2018.
