In a 2025 survey, over 80 percent of women with endometriosis in the United Kingdom reported they had been told by a healthcare practitioner they were "making a fuss about nothing" or similar comments. In the UK, the average endometriosis sufferer will wait over nine years for a diagnosis.

Endometriosis is a condition where tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside the uterus, often on the ovaries, fallopian tubes, or other pelvic areas. This tissue responds to hormonal changes during the menstrual cycle, which can lead to pain, inflammation, and sometimes scarring. Common symptoms include painful periods, ongoing pelvic pain, and difficulty getting pregnant, though experiences vary. It can be difficult to diagnose, as a definitive diagnosis often requires laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery to confirm it. Symptoms are often dismissed as “normal” period pain, which can delay people getting the care they need.
