In 2022, the source stated it made two changes to the categories used in previous years. These include a combination of "credit cards" with "charge/deferred debit cards" and the split of BNPL from "POS financing" (which itself was added as a new category in 2020). The latter change was made to atone for the "growing importance of BNPL". This seems to have been reverted in 2023 - for the year 2022.
In 2024, the "debit card" and "prepaid card" categories were combined into a single category called "Debit and Prepaid Cards". They were then separated again in 2025.
The figures have been taken from several publications. No figures were available for 2018 as the source did not release any reports that year.

The share of cash in Peru declined during the COVID-19 pandemic, but remained among the most used payment methods available in POS. Accounting for more t** percent of spending within physical stores in 2025, paper money and coins were used more frequently than both credit and debit cards. The share of contactless in P2P payments in Peru, for example, was higher than that in other Latin American countries, including Argentina, Mexico, and Brazil.
