This volume of traffic makes it the second busiest urban underground rail transport system in Latin America, followed by São Paulo, with around *** million passengers transported that same year. The first metro system built in the region was the Buenos Aires Underground, inaugurated in 1913. The subway in the Argentine capital transported around million people in 2022.
