The mobility restrictions resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 were reflected in the traffic of the country's metro services, and Madrid was no exception. Specifically, approximately *** million people traveled through the Spanish capital using this mode of transportation during the referenced year. This represented a decrease of more than *** million passengers compared to 2019 and the worst figure in the last two decades. In 2021, however, the relaxation of measures was noticeable with an increase of more than ** million. This increase was even greater in the following three years. In fact, million passengers were transported in 2024.
