The city of Lima, the capital of Peru, is one of the Latin American cities with the worst vehicle traffic. On average, residents of Lima lost approximately 157 hours per year due to delays caused by traffic jams or other transit-related issues in 2023. The second on the list is Mexico City, where its citizens spent about 152 hours in vehicle congestion.

But traffic problems are not the only challenge Lima faces. The city is confronted with various obstacles to ensure the smooth circulation of its inhabitants. Among the main issues are the high costs of public transportation, insufficient infrastructure and connectivity between different modes of transport, as well as insecurity. These factors encourage residents to opt for private vehicle use, which further contributes to vehicle congestion.
