Ecuador is facing a worrying escalation of violence that has persisted throughout 2024. To address this situation, Ecuador's new president, Daniel Novoa, promoted a referendum on April 22 to amend the National Constitution. In this referendum, the Ecuadorian population responded to ** questions about different constitutional changes aimed at strengthening security control in one of the countries with the highest homicide rate in the region. In total, **** of the questions received a yes vote, indicating a change in the constitution, while *** received a no.
