The French government has decided to invest in the development of hydrogen. According to experts, this energy source would help reduce air pollution and combat climate change. To achieve this, an increase in renewable electricity production capacity is required.
A study published by France Hydrogen proposes two deployment scenarios in light of the target set by the national hydrogen strategy for 2030. According to the reference scenario, *** kilotonnes of hydrogen will be deployed annually in France by 2030, with ** percent for the industrial sector, ** percent for mobility, and * percent for the energy sector. The more ambitious scenario forecasts a total of 1090 kilotonnes of hydrogen deployed per year. This would notably allow France to have ** hydrogen vehicles, 10,000 hydrogen heavy trucks, *** hydrogen boats and ships, and *** hydrogen trains by 2030.

As early as 2021, public authorities invested *** million U.S. dollars for the acquisition of ** hydrogen trains in France.
