This statistic represents the number of deaths in armed conflicts between 1989 and 2022, by continent. Of the 3.3 million deaths recorded since the end of the Cold War, nearly half occurred in Africa. A closer look at these figures shows that most come from only a handful of conflicts. For example, in Africa, nearly 800,000 deaths are from Rwanda. Regarding Europe, half of the deaths from armed conflicts come from the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
