Supplementary notes
Nitrous oxide is a powerful greenhouse gas that persists in the atmosphere for a long time: about 120 years. Its warming potential is 298 times that of CO2 over a century. Agriculture is responsible for the vast majority of French N2O emissions, mainly from the transformation of nitrogen products (fertilizers, manure, slurry, crop residues) on agricultural land.
