In a survey conducted in 2025 among New Zealanders on their views of tourism, the top perceived negative impact of tourism on local areas was higher volumes of litter and waste generation, at around ** percent of respondents. Struggles to find a parking spot and damage to the local natural environment were also prevalent concerns.
