In 2024, between ** and *** percent of the production of the components of the most common battery types in the world, namely nickel-based lithium-ion batteries, lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries, and sodium-ion batteries, was based in China, depending on the technology chemistry. Overall, manufacturing activities of battery anodes and cathodes were concentrated in the Asia-Pacific region. Alongside China, ** percent of the nickel-based cathode production was in South Korea, *** percent in Australia, and ** percent of the anode production for sodium-ion batteries was located in Japan.
