As of 2024, five bioenergy with carbon capture and storage (BECCS) facilities were reported to be operational worldwide, with a combined carbon capture capacity of approximately 1.98 million metric tons per year.
The ADM Illinois Industrial BECCS facility in the United States reported a CO2 capturing capacity of one million metric tons per year via deep saline formation storage.
These facilities are all located in the United States; however, there are currently additional BECCS facilities under development in other countries.
