As of 2022, Northern Ireland was home to 27,302 sites generating electricity from renewable sources. Between 2003 and 2022, figures increased by 27,260 sites. The large rise in number of sites can be directly related to the increase in the number of solar photovoltaic sites used privately and commercially. In 2021, there were 46,632 solar PV sites generating electricity in Northern Ireland.
