Bride-price refers to the money or goods given to a bride's family by the groom or his family, while bride-dowry serves as a gift from the bride’s family to the groom’s family.
Among a total of 1,096 survey respondents, 38.7 percent were men and 61.3 percent were women. Among them, 2.4 percent were born after 2005, 18.7 percent between 2000 and 2004, 47.8 percent between 1995 and 1999, 25.5 percent between 1990 and 1994, 4.9 percent between 1985 and 1989, and 0.7 percent were born before 1985.Â

Usage of bride-price and bride-dowry in China 2025
According to a survey conducted in 2025, most young people in China would use the bride-price and bride-dowry recived from the other party as a subsidy for the newly formed family, with **** percent of respondents giving that answer. By contrast, only *** percent of respondents said they would keep the bride-price/bride-dowry as their personal property before marriage.
