In 2024, around 79 percent of adults in the United States reported that when shopping for food and beverages, they consider whether food is processed before purchasing it. Millennials were the generation most likely to take such consideration, with 82 percent. The consumption of ultra-processed foods such as potato chips, candy, and soft drinks has been linked to an increased risk of a number of health issues including certain cancers, cardiovascular disease, and type 2 diabetes.
