The cantonal building energy performance certificates are also known as GEAK in German, CECB in French, and CECE in Italian. They are the equivalent of the energy performance certificates used in the United Kingdom and the European Union.

Between 2020 and 2024, most of the cantonal building energy performance certificate updates in Switzerland had an energy efficiency rating of * or *. The share of certificate updates with a B rating was ** percent. Whereas, most of the initial publication of certificates had an energy efficiency rating of either * or *, amounting to ** percent of all initial certificates. However, it is important to note that, in contrast to other European countries, energy performance certificates are only mandatory in some cantons.
