Greenhouse gas emissions from passenger cars in the United States in 2022 were roughly ** percent below what they were in 1990, and ** percent below 2005 levels. By comparison, emissions from light-duty trucks (LDTs) in 2022 were more than double what they were in 1990. Combined, these two vehicle types accounted for more than ** percent of U.S. transportation GHG emissions in 2022.Â
