Since then, rising emissions have caused an accelerating depletion of the carbon budget, with just ** percent remaining by the end of 2022. Global COâ‚‚ emissions are projected to have reached record levels in 2023, leaving around *** percent of the carbon budget left. If COâ‚‚ emissions continue at current levels, the remaining budget will be used up within five years.Â
