Microsoft is by far the largest buyer of carbon dioxide removal (CDR) credits worldwide, having purchased more than ** million metric tons of CDR to date. In May 2025, Microsoft extended its previous deal with Swedish energy company Stockholm Exergi of removing **** MtCO₂ to **** MtCO₂, making it one of the largest-ever CDR deals.
