Based on a survey conducted in Japan between July and August 2022, the number of otaku in the vocaloid segment was estimated at *** thousand people. According to the same survey, vocaloid otaku on average spent around *** thousand Japanese yen per year on their hobby. Vocaloid products gained popularity in Japan after the introduction of the vocaloid software voicebank and virtual character Hatsune Miku in 2007.
