In 2022, global direct carbon dioxide emissions from buses increased by 1.1 percent to 452Â million metric tons (MtCOâ‚‚). Bus transportation accounted for roughly six percent of global transportation COâ‚‚ emissions in 2022. Although bus emissions have increased since plummeting in 2020 due to the outbreak of COVID-19, they remain below pre-pandemic levels. Bus emissions need to drop to below 400 MtCOâ‚‚ by 2030 to get on track with the Net Zero Scenario.
