This statistic has been compiled from multiple annual releases.

Due to changing Lake Mead elevations, Hoover’s generator capacity is adjusted based on estimated effective capacity and plant availability. The estimated effective capacity is based on projected Lake Mead elevations. Unit capacity tests will be performed as the lake elevation changes. This study reflects these changes in the projections.

The Hoover Dam had a power generation capacity of roughly megawatts (MW) as of June 2023. The Hoover Dam has a nameplate capacity of some megawatts (MW), but the severe drought in the Western United States has decreased how much power it can produce in recent years, with generation capacity dropping to just MW in February 2023. Lake Mead fuels the Hoover Dam, but water levels there have plummeted over the last three years. In July 2022, water levels at Lake Mead dropped to a low of feet above sea level. The lowest point at which the Hoover Dam can produce power is approximately *** feet above sea level.
