In 2022, Central America and the Caribbean had around 7.2 gigawatts of conventional hydropower projects in the pipeline, scheduled for completion between 2022 and 2037. Nicaragua holds a substantial share of this planned capacity, accounting for 24 percent of the total. In comparison, El Salvador accounts for only six percent of the planned capacity.
