Supermarkets were the preferred shopping channels for confectioneries as revealed in a survey conducted in Japan in September 2022. While almost ** percent of respondents stated that they visited supermarkets to buy sugar confectioneries and savory snack foods, less than *** percent ordered via non-electronic mail-order retailer.
A retailer unique to the Japanese snack foods market are so-called dagashiya, a bulk confectionery retailer selling candy and snack foods. Due to the primarily low prices, the stores are popular among children.
