ExxonMobil and Equinor were the leading companies worldwide in terms of carbon capture, use, and storage (CCUS) projects in 2020. That year, both companies had CCUS projects either in operation or in planning stages. CCUS technologies involve capturing CO2 emitted from the burning of fossil fuels or from other industrial processes and sequestering the CO2 in underground storage facilities. In other cases, the captured CO2 can be used in manufacturing processes.
