Based on central estimates of economic growth, fossil fuel prices, electricity generation costs, UK population and other key variables regularly updated. Contains all agreed policies where decisions on policy design are sufficiently advanced to allow robust estimates of impact (i.e. including “planned” policies).
In recent decades, the United Kingdom has been shifting away from coal-fired power and transitioning to clean energy sources. This has seen carbon dioxide emissions in the UK drop by more than ** percent compared to 1990 levels. This trend is expected to continue in the coming decades, with projections showing that total carbon dioxide emissions will drop to *** million metric tons by 2050.
