In the same year, three other famous videos were sold as NFTs, with the "Nayan Cat" meme selling for around 600 thousand U.S. dollars in April 2021, after 10 years from its first YouTube appearance. In 2022, YouTube announced it was looking into new Web3 opportunities for its creators, citing NFTs as one of the possible new technologies the platform might be interested in its monetization practices.
