As a result of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, restaurant staff across the United States enforced numerous safety protocols and not all customers complied with these protocols amiably. Between October and May of 2021, a gender-based survey in the U.S. was conducted to determine the share of restaurant workers who experienced or witnessed hostile behavior from customers in response to staff enforcing safety protocols. Roughly ** percent of women and ** percent of men stated that they had experienced or witnessed hostile behavior from customers.
