This analysis is based on a national sample of 308 counters representative of all counters shared with the Plateforme nationale des fréquentations.

Non-lockdown periods are from: January 1 to March 16, 2020, May 11 to October 29, 2020 and December 15 to December 31, 2020.

Data comparing 2021 and 2020 is not available.

Between 2019 and 2020, bicycle use in urban areas increased by ** percent. There was less variation in sub-urban and rural areas. Indeed, traffic increased by only * percent in rural areas. However, during periods outside the containment due to the COVID-19 virus, the rate jumped in all areas with an increase of more than ** percent in bicycle traffic in urban area. Cycling growth has slowed in cities since and has stagnated in suburban and rural areas.
