Bicycle market in Germany - statistics & facts
Like riding a bike? Bicycles are a popular way to get around in both urban and rural areas in Germany, with young children learning to ride firmly entrenched in the national culture. Germany has a variety of scenic bike routes, but looking out for bike lanes in a city is a daily part of life both for cyclists and pedestrians. Many cyclists value the multiple advantages cycling brings – physical activity, saving money by foregoing commuting with public transport or driving, and the eco-friendly aspect. Cycling is also a competitive sport, with the Tour de France arguably being the most famous, as well as the most demanding cycling race in the world. Despite the fame and the talent involved, the fandom has shrunk in recent years, with some 16 percent of respondents to a survey stating they were following cycling competitions during 2023/2024.
