The industrial and commercial sectors in Central America were expected to be the most affected by the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, in terms of energy consumption. As a result of lockdown measures implemented to contain the spread of the virus, energy consumption in each of these sectors was forecast to decrease by ** percent in the year, when compared to 2019, and by ** percent in comparison to a pre-COVID-19 scenario. Meanwhile, residential energy consumption was projected to reach nearly **** million tons of oil equivalent (Mtoe) in 2020, up from **** Mtoe a year earlier.
