At the beginning of 2020, before the COVID-19 outbreak, energy consumption in Mexico was forecast to amount to million tons of oil equivalent (Mtoe) in the year, up from *** Mtoe a year earlier. As a consequence of the outbreak, and lockdown measures implemented to control the spread of the virus, the forecast energy consumption was revised, being expected to reach Mtoe - a decrease of *** percent in comparison to the previously projected figure. The commercial and services sector was expected to experience the highest relative drop, when compared to a pre-COVID-19 scenario.
