In the first quarter of 2020, the return on investment of New York-based Betterment's SRI-themed portfolio equaled to **** percent, whereas the returns from their non-SRI portfolio amounted to **** percent. As for Toronto-based Wealthsimple, the return on investment of their SRI portfolio was **** percent, while their non-SRI portfolio slightly underperformed and reached *** percent. Socially responsible investing (SRI) and environmental, social and governance (ESG) investing are both types of sustainable investing. Sustainable investing has seen a huge surge in popularity since 2012 and the volume of sustainable investments in the U.S. had more than tripled by 2018.
