Participants were asked to rate ESG ratings providers with a score out of five based on their usefulness. Useful refers to scores of four and five, while not useful refers to scores of one and two.
The source does not mention the survey method.
Note that despite the small sample size, the finding of this survey are consistent with data from a larger survey of sustainability experts conducted by the source using the same questions in Fall 2018.

Based on a survey conducted in fall 2018, the most useful environmental, social and governance (ESG) score provider share according to professional investors was Sustainalytics. ** percent of respondents rated this provider either **** or **** out of five for usefulness. CDP Climate, Water and Forests Scores, and MSCI rounded out the top three, with ** and ** percent of respondents viewing them as high quality respectively.
