Major incentives encouraging use of cashless payment in Japan 2025
According to a survey conducted from February to March 2025, **** were an incentive for around **** percent of consumers in Japan to use cashless payment methods more frequently. The same share of respondents said that ** would make them use digital payments more often.
Following the most recent consumption tax hike in October 2019, the Japanese government introduced a reward point system for consumers using cashless payment methods at small and medium-sized businesses as well as food service establishments. The purpose of the measure was to stimulate consumption following price increases and promote cashless payment usage.
