According to a survey conducted from August to September 2025, **** were the leading reason for consumers in Japan to use cashless payment methods. Following the most recent consumption tax hike in October 2019, the Japanese government introduced a reward point system for consumers using cashless payment methods at small and medium-sized businesses as well as food service establishments. The purpose of the measure was to stimulate consumption following price increases.
